On Thursday, 30 October 2014, the Raion Public Library “M. Sadoveanu” of the Străşeni city in partnership with the Novateca Program and the Străşeni Raion Council inaugurated the Regional Training Center for librarians, as well as launched the implementation of the Novateca program in 21 public libraries of the raion.
The Regional Training Center, created within the raion library is equipped with modern computers and required equipment to train the local librarians, as well as to facilitate the free access of the Strășeni residents to online information and services.
With the support of the Novateca program and the local public authorities, other 21 public libraries of the localities Micăuți, Romănești, Codreanca, Onești, Țigănești, Grebleşti, Scoreni, Voinova, Chirianca, Zubrești, Recea, Roşcani, Sireți, Cojuşna, Dolna, Lozova, Vorniceni, Bucovăţ, Tătărești, Pănăşeşti and Căpriana, benefited from modernization and trainings.
The Novateca program invested 80 thousand US dollars in the libraries of the Străşeni raion. Due to the financial support of the Străşeni Raion Council and of the local public authorities, libraries were renovated, provided with new furniture, heating systems, the library equipment was secured and the Internet connection costs covered.
The Străşeni raion joined the Novateca program in the first selection round along with the raions Anenii Noi, Briceni, Cahul, Călărași, Căuşeni, Edineţ, Făleşti, Hânceşti, Ialoveni, Orhei, Rezina, Şoldăneşti, Ștefan-Vodă, Taraclia, Teleneşti, Ungheni, Bălți municipality and Chișinău municipality. In this round, 350 public libraries will be equipped with more than 1000 computers to ensure public access to the Internet. Also, approximately 800 librarians will receive trainings in IT and the development of new library services.
